‘Paperback’ is the new track from Tape Runs Out. At their core, the Cambridge-based sextet are an indie band, but their experimental song structures, shifting time signatures and unique instrumental setup prove that they are so much more. They describe it as “a song about self-doubt and intrusive thoughts, written with a deliberately unusual structure to highlight the themes. It took a few years to finalise - the longest out of any Tape Runs Out song to date - with many discarded versions left along the way. Both the song and the video represent the mental chaos from being overwhelmed with thoughts, which is a recurring theme from the album.” The band are due to release their debut album, Floodhead, on March 31st, 2023. -Dan Peeke.
